So after I failed to find overland passage through Tibet via Shangrila, I decided to fly to Chengdu, in Sichuan province. I’d read that it’s relatively easy to book passage via Chengdu, and it was. It only took 2 days to find 3 other travellers, and book a tour. I have a hard sleeper train ticket from Chengdu to Lhasa – 2 days on the highest railway on Earth. We’ll spend 3 days in Lhasa, acclimating to the altitude, and touring sites in the city. From there we visit the highest lake on Earth, and the tallest mountain on Earth – we’ll be spending a day and sleeping overnight at Everest Base Camp. In addition, we’ll be visiting various other sites and monasteries in Tibet on our way to the border of Nepal. In all I’ll be 11 days in Tibet.
Also, I recently hiked in the deepest canyon on Earth, but I’m not finished processing the photos yet, so I’ll write about that in a seperate post.
