Scuba Certified, And Time To Get Moving

My time in Koh Tao has been nice. Yesterday I finished up my SSI Open Water diving certification course. I now have an SSI id card, and am certified to dive to 30 meters. I lucked out with my training course, as I was the only person in the class. I ended up having private lessons for the price of a regular dive course. I’m guessing it’s because this is the off season, and the whole red shirt situation has really hurt the tourism industry. Not good for the resorts down here, but great for me! I ended up taking the course with Scuba Junction after reading positive reviews on Thorn Tree and Trip Advisor. It seemed like a good outfit, and I’m happy with the training I got from them.

The island life is nice, but very, very, slow – much slower than when I was here in December/January, the high season. Since I’m now certified, but can’t really afford to dive more here (I’m saving my dives for other locations, like Bali), it’s time to get moving again. Tomorrow I take the ferry back over to the mainland and head for Khao Sok National Park. I’ll be spending my last evening on Koh Tao eating fresh seafood BBQ and avoiding the World Cup.
